The Undalup Makuru NAIDOC festival is an annual Cultural event that is significant to our Aboriginal people of Australia, participation in cultural activities are important elements of traditions and community sustainability, as well as spiritual and social well-being.

This year’s theme is “Our Languages Matter” which aims to emphasise and celebrate the unique and essential role that Indigenous languages play in cultural identity; linking people to their land and water and in the transmission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, spirituality and rites, through story and song, workshops and events.

Supporting the Act-Belong-Commit message at the Undalup Makuru NAIDOC Festival will aim to focus on all our Aboriginal People in the Area, an opportunity to engage in Cultural Workshops for the week of NAIDOC, giving them connection to the land and their people. Hosted by many Wadandi Elders and Cultural Custodians, the workshop activities range from Bush Foods and medicines, Bush weaving and Braiding, Cultural Dance workshops and art activities, Rope making and some Bush Food Catering will be available.

The language is of high importance to our Aboriginal people, as is their artwork. The Festival will also be holding an Art Exhibition for our Aboriginal people in the area. As the Noongar season of June / July, Winter, is cold and wet weather, this has been taken into consideration, as all workshops will take place in a marquee each day, Monday to Friday with Saturday being the Family Fun Day.
